FARM FRESH: Turkeys raised without the use of antibiotics at a farm in Lebanon, Pa., Wednesday. The Food and Drug Administration wants drug companies to help limit the use of antibiotics in farm animals, a practice that scientists say has contributed to a surge in drug-resistant bacteria.

ELEPHANT EVICTED: An elephant named Tonya stuck her trunk out of a container as she was relocated Tuesday from Zoo Blijdorp in Rotterdam to a zoo in Prague. Tonya had to leave along with her mother, Douanita, because she didn’t get along with the rest of the elephants.

Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Oklahoma, Grazing Bison by George F. Mobley
Stately American bison graze beneath gold-lined clouds in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma. Established in 1905, the refuge now shelters roughly 600 bison. Excess animals are sold live at public auction every October.

HARD FALL: A bear fell from a tree at the University of Colorado in Boulder Thursday after being tranquilized by wildlife officials. The bear, which weighs 150-200 pounds, had wandered into a campus dormitory complex. It was later tagged and released in the Rocky Mountains.
